Hi Team,
Here is an excerpt from President Murphy's "Welcome to Spring Quarter 2008" email sent on 4/18/08.
Dear Colleagues,
We are delighted that Fujitsu Computer Systems has made a $1 million gift to De Anza ($500,000 as a cash gift to the Planetarium and $500,000 in technology for use across the campus). In honor of this generosity, the Planetarium will be renamed the Fujitsu Planetarium at De Anza College. In addition to the gift, Fujitsu will offer free training and technical support in using this new technology -- such as Fujitsu's tablet computers -- in the classroom and beyond. We will soon announce a process for allocating these wonderful new resources. Please join us at the gift announcement and naming celebration beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6. You will be receiving an e-mail invitation very soon.
Sincerely, Brian Murphy

Dear Faculty and Staff,
Measure C litigation is over and we can move on
The California Supreme Court ruled in our favor on the Measure C litigation that's been going on for the past 19 months! By now, you've probably read the details Becky Bartindale sent to all faculty and staff. What a joy for us all! What a relief! We can now move forward over the next few years to finish what we began when our residents passed Measure E in 1999. This time, though, with Measure C, we'll have funding for instructional equipment and technology as well as renovations and some new facilities. With these new resources, our goal is to create and sustain an unparalleled learning environment that will be a perpetual magnet to bring students, faculty, staff and the community into our world of teaching and learning!
Best regards, Martha Kanter

In the interest of better communications about our activities, here is a summary of a Technology Task Force topic for those unable to attend. Please share with your constituents.
The Technology Task Force is charged with the creation of a campus technology plan in the Accreditation Self-Study Report Standard III.C (page 224). http://www.deanza.edu/about/accreditation/finalpdfreports/Self_Study_StandardTHREE.pdf
Vice president of Finance and College Services will provide leadership to develop a De Anza College Technology Plan based on the campus Educational Master Plan that provides direction to the district Technology Strategic Plan.
While the accreditation study assumes the campus plan would provide direction to the district plan, we in fact employed the district technology plan http://fhdafiles.fhda.edu/downloads/etac/TechnologyPlan2005.pdf as a starting point for the De Anza Technology plan. Perhaps future efforts will reverse this trend and follow the accreditation study process where college plans inform district strategic plans. For the current DA tech plan however, we took as a starting point those places in the district plan listed as the responsibility of the campus and added as we saw the need.
As we continued to develop our tech plan, we felt it would be helpful to have a better understanding of current technology practices and formed a small group to begin looking into this. Our first efforts focused on understanding the relationship between what services ETS provides to De Anza and what it does not. The DA tech plan should address both the ETS relationship and those areas not covered by ETS. This chart http://facultyfiles.deanza.edu/gems/TechTaskforce/Techorgchart.jpg describes our current state in graphical form. ETS, the green shapes, has a well defined organization with Service Level Agreements describing the scope of each area. The areas not covered by ETS, the pink shapes, do not share such well defined organizational structure. It is this structure of De Anza technology use that the Tech Task Force subgroup is attempting to discover and describe.
They began with the approach of charting a few example processes from a technology deployment point of view. As we progressed, we saw the advantage of including different points of view, e.g., faculty and staff end users, managers, and students. By understanding our current state through the perspective of these constituent groups, we hope our current processes will become more transparent and accessible to all. Our initial goal however, is to provide the TTF with information to create the best working tech plan we can. This approach should allow us to optimize our resources, provide direction for forming new tech initiatives and for prioritizing and funding existing plans. We should end up with a tool that enhances our ability to manage our limited resources. The group still needs representatives from the classified professional and student groups to work on this project. Please email me with volunteers or ideas for such and we will continue to expand our perspective.
