1) Approve Meeting Notes from April 16,
2008 The notes were approved with an amendment to item 3.
2) Visit by Geoff Allison of Fujitsu Slater Ohm joined the meeting in Geoff Allison's place. He noted that Fujitsu had a line of 9 computers and samples the College had were the 4210 small tablet PC and the 4220 larger 12'' screen tablet PC with DVD. The Fujitsu LifeBook T4000 series convertible tablet PC combines the
convenience and familiarity of a notebook with the versatile
functionality of a slate tablet PC. There is a display of the two tablet PCs in the College bookstore. Fujitsu would provide training
at no cost to FHDA. Training was scheduled for June 10 & 11, 2008. Fujitsu would give the College leading edge technology and share best practices from other colleges such as Virginia Tech. The tablet PCs come loaded with “Microsoft OneNote”
Hawk: asked the team to decide on an allocation process. Swensson distributed a preliminary list of "early adopters."He suggested that we make tablets available to students & cited an example of Rob Mieso taking a “cart’ to outreach locations to allow for students to enroll at the outreach visits.
Some suggested criterion were:
- Thoughtful and meaningful for learning and teaching
- People vs. programs?
- Tablet pc vs. regular laptop
- Teaching models: mobile and flexible vs. static and structured
- What are the faculty’s current resources and how would this new technology fit in?
- Replace current pc laptop faculty users with the new tablets?
- Laptops computers will have XP loaded.
- Do a write-up/presentation after using tablets to share with FHDA.
