Placement Tests

Placement in English is based on results of standardized tests prior to enrollment. To enroll in English 1A, a student must demonstrate competence in reading and writing skills.

Competence in reading is demonstrated by a satisfactory score on a standard test or satisfactory completion of Reading 91, including instructor's recommendation.

Competence in writing is demonstrated by a satisfactory score on a standard test or satisfactory completion of English 100B, including instructor's recommendation.

Students scoring below the qualifying score for Reading 91 in the reading test should enroll in Reading 201. Those scoring below the qualifying score for English 100B on the writing test should enroll in English100A.
