Biology Registration and Prerequisite Information
For Biology 6A, 6B, 6C, 26, 40A, 40B, 40C and 45!If you think you have equivalent course work from another college for any prerequisites, please schedule a meeting with Tom Nguyen, the BHES Division Counselor, email nguyentom@fhda.edu Please bring a transcript (does not have to be official, can be a copy) for determining eligibility for a prerequisite clearance to the meeting and schedule the meeting prior to the start of registration! Detailed course outlines and/or syllabi for coursework completed must be submitted with transcript(s). Foreign transcripts must be evaluated from an outside evaluation service, De Anza College does not evaluate foreign transcripts.
The Dean, along with faculty experts in the area of study, will evaluate each student's records and approve or deny the request for clearance based on course equivalency. Biology prerequisites are established by the faculty and approved by the College Curriculum Committee. They are published in the De Anza College Catalog and in the schedule of classes. Prerequisites are enforced by the BHES Division.
A prerequisite in progress such as a Chemistry 30A or Biology 40A class will not preclude you from registration; however, if you do not pass the class with a grade of C or better you will be dropped from the course. The Biology 6A, 6C, 40A, 40B and 40C classes have a maximum enrollment capacity of 32 students. Biology 6B and Biology 26 have a maximum enrollment capacity of 28 students. Biology 45 has a maximum of 40 students. The first 32 qualified students are enrolled for Biology 6A, 6C, 40A, 40B and 40C classes and the first 28 students for Biology 6B and Biology 26 and the first 40 students for Biology 45.
IMPORTANT: If you are not able to enroll or add to a wait list, you may attend the first class session to see if there is space available. In order to obtain an add code from the instructor, you must obtain proof of prerequisite clearance from the division office via an equivalency determination memo.
REMINDER: Equivalency information for these classes MUST be submitted to the Biological, Health and Environmental Science Division office (KC228 in the Kirsch Center for Environmental Studies) prior to the start of registration!
