- Minutes approved.
Public Comment on items not on agenda (Senate cannot discuss or take action)
- Marc Coronado presented her student Demi Yang with a certificate of achievement in Women’s Studies. Oletha Perry also earned her certificate, but was not able to attend today.

- Mary D- Asked questions about marketing flyers.
- Bob- Consider next week a resolution of no confidence in the Student-Centered funding formula. Will share with officers. Would like us to discuss at the next meeting. Would like in the next state senate plenary three resolutions: no confidence in the chancellor, the student-centered formula, and the online college.
- Ilan- question regarding the process for approval of new certificates and degrees.
- Marc - How do I ensure that my students’ certificates show on their transcript.
- COA, COAA, and AS/AA all show on the transcripts. Only basic skills certificates do not.
Needs and Confirmations
- Mary S motioned Biology hiring committee (Terrance seconded)
- No opposition, no abstention- Passed
Draft Updated Best Practices for Students in Shared Governance (2nd reading)
- Mary P- Worried re #3 “the mentors should have more than 3 months….,” the 3 months is concerning because there are members who do not have 3 months that would still be good mentors. The student governance group should be the ones to decide who the mentos should be.
- Cynthia- was present during the creation of the draft and the decision to include this was so that the person should have a feeling for the committee climate. Plus, it says “should.”
- Motion made by Cynthia to approve, seconded by Mary S. All in support. PASSSED.
Request to add DASB statement to Academic Senate Model Syllabus (2nd reading/discussion)
- Change “school” to college” possibly change “D(istrict).”
- Motion to approve - Mary S. Seconded by Terrence. Unanimous approval by the committee.
Faculty Representation on Planning and Budget Teams (PBTs)
- Full time or phase 3 year 4 candidates.
- Mary D - Would like to have wording included or adjust as necessary to have a part-time, reemployment preference added to PBTs.
- Mary S- what is the organizational need? Full-time faculty don’t represent both? What happens if the part-timer doesn’t teach for a quarter or so?
- Cynthia - We as a body should be able to decide. Each faculty should be responsible for being aware of their position and time obligations.
- Marissa- could you include “faculty, including part-time” in the language.
- Add to next meeting for review and vote.
