Student Judicial Affairs Hearing Board

Student judicial Affairs Hearing Boards are responsible for reviewing potential violations of the Student Code of Conduct adopted by the Foothill-De Anza Community College District (Administrative Procedure 5510)  and other rules, policies and regulations including Title IX cases.

    

What Do Board Members Do?

Board members serve as hearing officers for cases that could result in suspension or expulsion from the college. Members may also serve on student grievance hearing boards, which provide a prompt and equitable process for resolving student concerns and disputes when a student reasonably believes a college decision or action has adversely affected his or her status, rights or privileges.

Faculty appointments to the boards are made by the Academic Senate on an as-needed basis, with necessary training and information provided during individual and group sessions, depending on the faculty member's availability. 

    

Training and Expectations

All board members must complete training before participating in a hearing. Training includes both online and in-person sessions and is provided individually or in groups depending on availability.

• New members are scheduled for training shortly after selection to learn the fundamentals of board participation.
• After initial training, members gain additional experience by observing hearings and attending follow-up individual sessions. Most members are fully trained and ready to serve as a hearing officer within a few weeks.

All board members are expected to uphold the confidentiality and ethical standards established by De Anza College, FERPA, and the Foothill-De Anza District Board of Trustees.
