Biography

I have a broad and deep love of philosophy. Some of my particular passions are the history of philosophy (especially modern German philosophy), ethics, moral psychology, philosophy of emotion, aesthetics, and political philosophy. I enjoy having classes that are active, discussion-oriented, and in which students feel that the issues we are engaging with really matter.

Deena Lin photo

Biography

Deena M. Lin received her B.A. in philosophy at the University of San Francisco, and earned a M.A. in religious studies and a Ph.D. in philosophy of religion and theology at Claremont Graduate University. She is native to the Bay Area and teaches a diverse array of courses, covering themes emanating from the history of philosophy, Eastern and Western philosophical and religious traditions, issues in social justice and race, feminist philosophy, and ethics. Rather than being done in the abstract, Dr. Lin believes philosophy should provide students as a means to analyze, think about, and ultimately offer constructive insight to tackle difficult issues confronting us in our current time. When out of the classroom she enjoys being a mom to her two kids, coaching and playing competitive soccer, hiking, traveling, and curling up with a good book.
