Classified Senate met on zoom on February 27, 2024. President, Adriana Garcia called the meeting to order at 2:09 PM.

Approval of Agenda and Notes

The current agenda and February 13th meeting notes were approved by unanimous vote.

Senate Business

Campus Resource: EOP

The two classified academic advisors from EOPS, Chuong Le, and Maria Perezalonso were invited to speak to the senate about their program. EOPS is a state-wide initiative implemented in the community college system serving low-income students with a special focus on disadvantaged and marginalized students who must overcome barriers to succeed in college. They shared their website and explained the program in detail.

Internal Committees and Reports

Adriana asked for help working on the classified senate handbook and anyone interested can join her meeting on March 8 to participate.

She also needs a senator on the campus center advisory committee and a committee for employee recognition awards. Debee has agreed to serve on the district-wide police chief's advisory committee. It was noted that though Maritza and Dennis both meet with the campus center advisory committee, this is part of their job and there's no official representative on that committee from classified senate.

Maritza gave an update on the professional development day committee which is nearly ready for the event. She reminded people to register and/or volunteer. She outlined the four workshops organized and the food and other activities for the event.

Leadership Committees and Reports

Dennis reported that RAPP is responding to faculty complaints about the positions the selected in their efforts to prioritize needed personnel. He said they also have been debating how to fill missing positions in classified and administrative groups. There is also concern about positions that were cut and how they will be reopened in the future. Andre also added some specific details about the various position "buckets" established by RAPP and how they were prioritized.

Dennis also reported that the FHDA board is in favor of the medical facility to be built on campus covering both parking lots A and B.  But he also said there was no official confirmation of this yet. He said the affordable housing task force has tentatively suggested a site also in parking lot A north of the proposed location for the medical facility.

He also reported on changes in how the board wishes to use the measure G funding.  People are encouraged to attend FHDA board meetings.

 Dennis also reported that efforts are underway to refurbish the meditation and prayer room in the campus center. He said the food pantry will move to the old Le Cafe downstairs campus center location. He also reported the dining services RFP is on hold so the current dining services will remain in effect through 2025. Tina is still soliciting feedback from bike riders about preferred locations for storing bikes on campus and which bike racks are in need of repair.
