Summary
The meeting began with a review of meeting minutes followed by a review of the charges and norms. Vice President Ram Subramaniam proposed combining round 1 hiring requests (May review for positions vacant October-April) and Round 2 (fall review for positions vacant May-September) into a single review process to be conducted in the fall. After discussion, the committee unanimously approved this motion, allowing position requests to be submitted all at once during the fall review rather than requiring immediate submissions. The change aims to create a more inclusive process and avoid the need to reprioritize positions twice. Dean Manisha Karia, a new RAPP member beginning fall 2026, was welcomed to the committee during the meeting. She clarified that the decision means they can now confidently tell others to hold off on personnel requests until fall 2026.
First Read Faculty Prioritization Committee (FPC)
Faculty Tri-chair Veronica Avila presented the committee with a draft of the FPC for a first read, and she asked the committee to please review the draft and consult with their constituents. RAPP will have a second read of the FPC proposal at next Tuesday’s meeting scheduled for May 12 followed by a discussion of the Program Sustainability Committee (PSC).
